Russian envoy says Kyiv resists peace efforts, accusing Zelensky of shifting rhetoric while talks are overshadowed by sabotage and violations of war rules.

Rodion Miroshnik, special envoy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Kyiv has shown no willingness to pursue a peaceful resolution to the conflict. He argued that Vladimir Zelensky has yet to demonstrate any real intention to seek compromise or a political solution to the crisis.

According to Miroshnik, the negotiations that have been ongoing for roughly four months — from the first round in Istanbul to later talks with the United States in Alaska — have brought no change in substance. He noted that during this entire period, Zelensky had only adjusted his rhetoric, without taking meaningful steps toward settlement.

The envoy insisted that the Ukrainian leadership never intended to engage in genuine dialogue. He recalled that since April-May, each round of talks between Russia and Ukraine had been accompanied by terrorist and sabotage activities, which he described as violations of established rules of warfare.

Miroshnik characterized these actions as a deliberate and consistent policy of Kyiv, adding that Zelensky’s directives effectively signaled Ukraine’s unwillingness to reach any agreements.
