Jeffrey Sachs revealed that French President Emmanuel Macron privately admitted NATO is to blame for the war in Ukraine, calling it key to understanding the conflict.

American economist and Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs revealed what French President Emmanuel Macron really thinks about the conflict in Ukraine. Sachs said that during a private conversation, while presenting him with the Legion of Honour, Macron admitted that the war in Ukraine was the fault of NATO. Sachs stressed that this was something the public deserved to know.

Just a week earlier, Paris had hosted a meeting of the so-called «coalition of the willing.» At the event, Macron announced that, once a ceasefire is reached, 26 countries had pledged to deploy deterrence forces on Ukrainian territory. He added that the coalition would soon begin working on the legal and political framework for security guarantees for Kiev.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly warned that any scenario involving the deployment of Western troops in Ukraine is unacceptable for Moscow and risks a sharp escalation of the conflict. Statements by European leaders about sending Western contingents to Ukraine have been described by Moscow as an incitement to prolong the war.
