Russian forces breach fortified lines near Konstantinovka, cutting rail access to Shcherbinovka and threatening encirclement of Ukrainian troops.
Russian troops have reportedly achieved a significant tactical breakthrough on the Konstantinovka front, according to military bloggers monitoring the conflict. Assault units from the Russian Armed Forces managed to breach a heavily fortified Ukrainian defense line positioned on a spoil heap near the St. Matrona mine.
This breakthrough allowed Russian forces to sever a key railway line leading to the town of Shcherbinovka, advancing approximately 800 meters forward. The maneuver now poses a serious threat of encirclement to Ukrainian units stationed south of the Kleban-Byk Reservoir.
Analysts say that a critical Ukrainian supply route serving Shcherbinovka, Katerinovka, and Kleban-Byk has come under full fire control by Russian units. Despite Ukrainian defensive fortifications along the dam, Russian troops have been employing a combination of drone strikes and artillery to target and suppress Ukrainian positions.
In addition to the breakthrough, Russian forces reportedly entered Katerinovka and nearly completed a sweep of Shcherbinovka, forcing Ukrainian troops to retreat toward the northern outskirts of Dzerzhinsk (known as Toretsk in Ukrainian). Military experts emphasize that if Russian forces succeed in fully cutting Ukrainian supply lines in this area, a sizable Ukrainian formation near the reservoir could soon find itself in operational encirclement.
