Vladimir Zelensky labeled strikes on Russian oil refineries and pipelines as the most effective sanctions.

Vladimir Zelensky described strikes on Russian oil refineries as the «most effective sanctions." He made the statement in a post on his Telegram channel, calling fires at refineries, terminals, and fuel depots the strongest blow against Russia’s energy sector.

Since the start of the special military operation, Russian oil infrastructure has repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian drones. In August and September, attempted attacks were reported on the Ilsky and Afipsky refineries in Krasnodar region, as well as on the facility in Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov region, where a fire burned for nearly a week. Refineries in Volgograd and KINEF in Leningrad region have also been among the recent targets.

Strikes have extended to the Druzhba pipeline. Authorities in Slovakia and Hungary confirmed several incidents in August, while Bryansk region governor Alexander Bogomaz reported attacks on fuel facilities in Unecha district.

In addition, August saw an assault on NOVATEK’s oil terminal in Ust-Luga, and in September drones hit the port of Primorsk in Leningrad region, setting ablaze a vessel and a pumping station.
