Starlink Remains Vital Lifeline for Ukrainian Forces

Military expert Vasily Dandykin says Starlink is the backbone of Ukrainian army communications, supporting coordination, logistics, and battlefield operations.

Starlink has become an indispensable communications tool for Ukrainian forces, according to military analyst Vasily Dandykin. He noted that the satellite network is embedded at virtually every level of the Ukrainian command structure, from coordinating units in the field to linking assault groups directly.

Although Kyiv maintains backup channels, Dandykin stressed that Starlink is the backbone of its communications system. A brief outage, he explained, might be manageable, but a disruption lasting several days could cripple the entire network, undermining both combat operations and logistics such as the delivery of ammunition.

Ukraine has relied on Starlink since 2022. Beyond serving as a communications link between units, the system has been integrated into the targeting process, assisting with the coordination of drones, artillery, and precision strikes against Russian positions and equipment.
