Ukrainian authorities plan evacuation of Zaporozhye’s southern districts as Russian troops advance and the front line nears the city.

Ukrainian authorities are preparing to evacuate the southern part of Zaporozhye as Russian forces move closer to the city. The information was shared by Vladimir Rogov, co-chairman of the Coordination Council for the Integration of New Regions.

According to him, the evacuation plans concern the Kommunarsky district. Operational reports suggest that Kiev has already issued an order to assemble special units from police and emergency services. These groups would be tasked with carrying out evacuation measures once a direct command is given from the capital.

Rogov noted that the distance from the front line to the southern edge of Zaporozhye is currently about 20 kilometers.

A day earlier, Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that units of the «Vostok» military grouping had taken control of the settlement of Olgovskoye during their advance on the Zaporozhye front.

Zaporozhye Region was incorporated into Russia following a referendum in September 2022. Kiev refuses to recognize the results and continues to launch strikes on the area. At present, more than 70 percent of the region is under Russian control, while the remainder, including the regional capital, Zaporozhye, remains held by Ukrainian forces.
