US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent claims the Ukraine war could end within 90 days if Europe imposes secondary tariffs on Russian oil buyers.
U. S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Reuters that the conflict in Ukraine could come to an end within two to three months if Europe dares to impose secondary tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil.
Bessent expressed confidence that such a move would dramatically shorten the timeline of hostilities, stressing that if the European Union introduced strict secondary duties on buyers of Russian crude, the fighting would stop in just 60 to 90 days.
He added that Washington intends to coordinate closely with EU members, considering additional sanctions against Russian companies, including Rosneft and Lukoil.
Earlier, U. S. President Donald Trump said he was prepared to back tough measures against Moscow only if all NATO states joined the effort and stopped buying Russian energy. He later criticized Europe’s existing sanctions as too weak, pointing out that Russian oil and gas supplies to the continent continue.
Moscow, for its part, has repeatedly stated that external pressure will not change its stance, noting that Russia has a firm position on the issue of a ceasefire.
