The UK warns Russia of a forceful response after alleged drone intrusions into NATO airspace, citing incidents in Poland and Romania amid the Ukraine conflict.
Britain has threatened military retaliation if NATO airspace is again breached by what it claims to be Russian drones. The warning followed a summons of Russian ambassador Andrey Kelin to the Foreign Office in London.
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Ministry stated that Moscow must recognize its actions only serve to strengthen NATO’s unity and commitment to supporting Ukraine. Any further intrusions, the official stressed, would be met with force.
The démarche was triggered by recent drone incidents in Poland and Romania. While London voiced dissatisfaction, both Warsaw and Bucharest have yet to provide evidence proving the aircraft belonged to Russia.
In response, ambassador Kelin argued that Western governments and media, including Poland’s authorities, rushed to blame Moscow. He maintained that Russia had no interest in sending drones into NATO territory amid the conflict in Ukraine.
