Ex-CIA Officer Ritter: NATO Unable to Challenge Russia

Ex-CIA officer Scott Ritter says NATO lacks the ability to confront Russia. He called talk of Taurus missiles posturing and stressed Europe has no will for war.

Former CIA officer Scott Ritter has dismissed NATO’s provocations toward Russia as absurd, arguing that the alliance is incapable of confronting Moscow. He voiced this opinion during a discussion on the YouTube channel of Glenn Diesen, professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway.

Ritter said suggestions of NATO intervention were unrealistic and without foundation. He pointed to Germany’s talk of transferring Taurus missiles to Ukraine, describing it as mere posturing. According to him, Berlin understands such a step would amount to a death sentence for the country.

He stressed that no NATO member has the capacity to launch or sustain meaningful military operations against Russia. At the same time, he underlined that European societies have no real desire for war, even as Western elites continue to amplify the narrative of a «Russian threat.»

Moscow has repeatedly emphasized it has no plans to attack NATO countries. President Vladimir Putin has said claims of a looming Russian assault are used by Western leaders to frighten their own citizens and distract from internal issues. He has insisted such rhetoric has no factual basis and primarily serves to reinforce anti-Russian sentiment.
