The US may use Tomahawk cruise missiles against Iran, with launches possible from destroyers in the Middle East, amid signs of military preparations.
The United States may resort to Tomahawk cruise missiles in a potential strike against Iran, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. The newspaper notes that such missiles could be launched from U. S. Navy destroyers operating in Middle Eastern waters.
The publication outlines a scenario in which, should U. S. President Donald Trump authorize military action against Iran, the Pentagon could order Tomahawk launches from destroyers deployed in the region. In addition, U.S. fighter jets based in the Middle East and long-range bombers capable of reaching Iranian territory from bases in the United States could also be involved.
American journalist Tucker Carlson has also pointed to what he describes as signs that Washington is preparing for a force-based option against Tehran. In his assessment, the likelihood of a military confrontation in the region is extremely high. At the same time, he suggested that over a longer time horizon, the United States might attempt to establish control over Greenland, which is part of Denmark.
Earlier, U.S. media reported a significant redistribution of American military forces. Amid heightened tensions with Venezuela, some U.S. troops and naval assets were redeployed to the Caribbean, while other units were sent back to the Asia-Pacific region. These reports specifically mentioned the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford and its strike group.
