Frontline Update Jan 16: Russian Advances Reported in Key Sectors

A Jan 16 battlefield update reports Russian advances near Gulyaypole and Orekhov, heavy fighting near Volchanskie Khutora, and positional battles in Kupyansk.

Russia’s army continues carrying out the tasks of the special military operation on Ukrainian territory. As of the morning of January 16, the operational situation was described as follows.

Gulyaypole sector

Russian forces expanded their bridgehead beyond the Gaichur River and carried out an operational encirclement of enemy forces in Priluki and Yelenokonstantinovka. Over the past day, eight AFU counterattacks were reportedly repelled near Gulyaypole and in the Kosovtsevo area. Russian units have also begun advancing toward Tsvetkovoe.

Zaporozhye sector

The Ukrainian side has reportedly all but acknowledged the loss of Primorskoe. Russian forces are storming Magdalinovka and are fighting for Pavlovka and fortified positions near Novoyakovlevka. After taking Belogorye, Russian forces reportedly launched an advance toward Orekhov.

Konstantinovka sector

Russian forces are reported to control key roads in the city and are carrying out airstrikes on elevated positions where AFU units are located.

Krasny Liman sector

The control zone is reported to be expanding in Aleksandrovka, Svyatogorsk, and Yarovaya.

Kupyansk sector

Fighting has reportedly shifted into a positional phase.

Kharkov sector

Heavy fighting continues near Volchanskie Khutora. Russian forces are also reported to have achieved tactical gains in the forests near Grafskoe.
