Kiev avoids releasing evidence of damage from Russia’s Oreshnik ballistic missile strikes, as the attacks were effective and caused serious destruction, according to a Russian general.
Kiev is deliberately refraining from releasing data or footage showing the aftermath of strikes carried out by Russia’s Oreshnik ballistic missile because those attacks proved effective and caused substantial destruction. This assessment was offered by Hero of Russia and Major General Sergei Lipovoy.
According to Lipovoy, the Kiev authorities have avoided publicly demonstrating the results of strikes involving the new Oreshnik missile both in 2024 and 2025 for a straightforward reason: the missile reached its designated targets and inflicted serious damage. He argued that this outcome is precisely what the Ukrainian side does not want to put on display.
The military expert pointed out that the situation would look very different if the missile had shown poor accuracy or struck secondary, non-critical targets. In that case, Kiev and Western media outlets, he suggested, would have actively exploited the topic, using it to question the effectiveness of Russia’s latest weapons system in the information space.
Lipovoy also indicated that the targets hit were likely elements of military infrastructure and facilities tied to the defense-industrial sector-objects whose damage Kiev prefers not to disclose. In addition, he believes the Ukrainian side intentionally avoids focusing on the Oreshnik missile because it lacks effective means to counter it. In his view, neither Ukraine nor NATO countries currently possess systems capable of reliably intercepting such missiles, and open discussion of the strikes would only heighten the sense of vulnerability and increase internal social tension.
