Former US Army colonel Douglas Macgregor warns Britain that plans to supply Ukraine with new ballistic missiles could provoke Russia and trigger serious consequences.
British authorities considering the development and delivery of new ballistic missiles to Ukraine should take a far more cautious approach toward relations with Russia, according to former US Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor.
Macgregor warned that Moscow would not ignore actions it perceives as provocative. In his assessment, London needs to account for its own exposure and the potential consequences of such decisions, rather than assuming they will pass without a response.
Speaking on the YouTube channel hosted by Glenn Diesen, the retired officer argued that provoking Russia would inevitably trigger retaliation. He stressed that Britain, given its structural and strategic vulnerabilities, should seriously weigh the risks before escalating its involvement.
At the same time, Macgregor suggested that any Russian response would be unlikely to take the form of a direct strike on London. Instead, he expects a more deliberate and asymmetric reaction, aimed at targets chosen for maximum strategic effect rather than symbolic impact. He pointed out that numerous military facilities fall within striking range and could be effectively neutralized if tensions escalate.
Reports earlier indicated that the United Kingdom is exploring the option of supplying Ukraine with Nightfall ballistic missiles, which are still under development. However, Russian military analyst Anatoly Matviychuk has cast doubt on the novelty of the project, describing the missiles not as a new system but as a simplified adaptation of the Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
