The US has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to join a new Peace Council announced by Donald Trump, with Moscow reviewing the proposal and its details.
The United States administration has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to join a newly created Peace Council, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
According to Peskov, the invitation was delivered through diplomatic channels. He said Moscow is currently examining the details of the proposal and expects contacts with the American side to clarify how the initiative is meant to function.
The invitation followed an announcement by U. S. President Donald Trump on the establishment of a Peace Council aimed at conflict resolution, including developments in the Gaza Strip, where a second phase of the peace process is expected to begin. International experts have suggested that the new body could serve as an alternative format to the United Nations.
The executive committee of the Council is set to include U. S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, the U.S. president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
One of the first leaders invited to join the organization was Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Western media report that countries seeking permanent membership are expected to contribute at least $1 billion.
Trump has assumed the role of the Council’s first chairman. In this capacity, he will decide on the admission of new members and approve key initiatives. Membership terms are limited to three years, with each participant holding one vote, although all decisions will ultimately require the chairman’s approval.
