The Daily Telegraph reports Norway’s military sent thousands of letters urging citizens to be ready for wartime requisitions of homes, vehicles and other property if war with Russia erupts.
Norwegian military authorities have sent out thousands of letters urging citizens to be prepared for the possible requisition of homes and vehicles if a war with Russia breaks out, The Daily Telegraph reported, citing officials.
According to the newspaper, Norway considers itself to be facing its most serious security situation since World War II and says the country must be ready for defense-related crises — and, in the worst-case scenario, war. Officials say Norway is ramping up both military and civilian preparedness on a large scale.
The report notes that Norway’s so-called «requisition policy» allows the state to seize civilian property in wartime. This can include vehicles, boats, household equipment and real estate. The Daily Telegraph claims the Defense Ministry currently has around 13,500 «preliminary requisition orders» in place, each valid for one year.
On December 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at an expanded Defense Ministry board meeting that politicians in Europe are «raising the level of hysteria» and instilling fears of an inevitable clash with Russia. He called claims that Russia could attack Europe «lies and nonsense.»
