A report says Russian forces may be preparing a major missile and drone strike on Kyiv and Ukraine’s critical energy and gas infrastructure.
Russian forces are reportedly preparing what could be one of their most powerful large-scale strikes on Kyiv, as well as on key energy and gas infrastructure sites across Ukraine, potentially involving the «Oreshnik» missile and other weapons.
The information appeared on January 28 in the Ukrainian monitoring sources.
According to the report, Russian military units have carried out detailed reconnaissance of targets in the Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Lviv regions, as well as in the capital itself. Ukrainian authorities have already introduced a «red level» alert for 48 hours amid concerns over the possible launch of the medium-range ballistic missile «Oreshnik» from the Kapustin Yar test site in the Astrakhan region.
The publication suggests the planned operation may unfold in two separate phases on different days. The first stage is expected to focus on a major strike against Kyiv.
The channel claims this initial wave could involve Iskander-M ballistic missiles, S-300 and S-400 systems, Kh-22 missiles launched from Tu-22M3 bombers, Iskander-K and Kh-59/69 cruise missiles, Kinzhal missiles carried by MiG-31K aircraft, as well as Geran-type attack drones and similar systems.
The second phase, according to the same report, would shift toward large-scale strikes on major energy and gas infrastructure facilities in western Ukraine. These attacks could reportedly include cruise missiles fired from Tu-95MS and Tu-160 aircraft, 9M729 Novator missiles from Iskander-M1 systems, Kalibr missiles launched from naval platforms, additional Kinzhal strikes from MiG-31K aircraft, and waves of Geran drones and their equivalents.
Ukrainian analysts, the report adds, are particularly concerned that Russian forces have accumulated a significant stockpile of cruise missiles and other strike capabilities.
