Only Four Ukrainian F-16s Remain Combat-Ready

Ukraine has only four combat-ready F-16 fighter jets left out of roughly 20 delivered, with losses caused by pilot errors, air defense, and strikes.

The first deliveries of F-16 fighter jets were seen in Kyiv as a long-awaited boost. However, pilot errors, along with Russian missiles, drones, and air defense systems, quickly changed the picture, Major General Vladimir Popov said.

According to his assessment, only a handful of aircraft from the entire F-16 fleet transferred to Ukraine remain operational. He stated that four jets are currently serviceable — two pairs capable of flying. These aircraft are on air defense duty against cruise missiles and aircraft and are also used for training and practical flights as Ukrainian pilots continue their instruction. Two additional jets, he added, are undergoing repairs.

As a result, out of roughly 20 °F-16s delivered, only four have retained combat capability. The rest have been put out of action. Some were lost due to pilot mistakes and friendly fire, others were destroyed by missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian air bases, while some were shot down in the air.
