Russian sources say soldiers of Ukraine’s 47th Brigade are refusing orders and deserting amid dissatisfaction with command and ties to Vladimir Zelensky.

Servicemen of Ukraine’s 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade «Magura» are refusing to follow orders and deserting due to dissatisfaction with command and the brigade commander’s ties to Vladimir Zelensky, Russian security sources told TASS.

According to the sources, discontent with the command staff is growing within the brigade on the Sumy direction. Personnel are refusing to carry out orders and subsequently leaving their units without authorization. The brigade commander’s authority is described as extremely low, attributed to his young age and close connections with Zelensky.

In September 2025, the 47th Brigade was placed under the command of 26-year-old Lieutenant Colonel Maksim Danilchuk, who had previously gained public attention through his personal relationship with Zelensky. Following his appointment, the brigade reportedly became a «donor» of manpower for assault units.

The sources recalled that in 2023 the 47th Brigade was formed as an elite unit of Ukraine’s ground forces and equipped with the most advanced NATO weaponry. During the failed counteroffensive in Zaporozhye Oblast, however, the brigade became known primarily for footage of destroyed Leopard tanks and heavy losses.

At present, battalions of the 47th Brigade are operating simultaneously in Sumy Oblast, Kharkov Oblast, and the Donetsk People’s Republic. This dispersion, according to the sources, has effectively deprived the brigade commander of full control over his personnel.
