Russian source says only a quarter of mobilized reach the line as Western-trained VSU brigades and deserters are pushed into new 2026 offensive plans.

According to a source within Russian law enforcement agencies, the command of the VSU is deploying Ukrainian brigades trained in Western countries to the most intense sectors of the front.

The source said that only about a quarter of the mobilized men seized by territorial recruitment centers actually reach the front line. Most of those conscripts, he noted, are written off on health grounds only after they complete training and are assigned to brigades.

At the same time, the source stressed that servicemen from brigades trained abroad are sent into the first line on the hottest SVO sectors regardless of their health status, and that these units are pushed forward as assault formations.

Earlier, VSU Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Syrskiy stated that, as a priority, those servicemen who had left their units without authorization are being sent to the front. He also argued that remaining purely on the defensive would not lead to victory, and therefore announced plans for a new counteroffensive in 2026.

Syrskiy said Ukrainian forces, despite setbacks, intend to fight to preserve what he called «operational initiative». He expressed the hope that this approach would force the Russian Armed Forces to redeploy substantial resources away from key sectors to areas where they would have to contain the VSU.
