Russia’s East group says it captured Ternovatoye in Zaporozhye by bypassing Ukrainian defenses, striking from the rear and blocking reinforcements.

Units of Russia’s «East» troop group reportedly captured the settlement of Ternovatoye in the Zaporozhye region by bypassing Ukrainian positions and striking from the rear, despite what was described as a fortified defense.

A senior Russian reconnaissance soldier identified by the call sign «Bogdan» said Ukrainian forces had established defensive points directly inside the village. According to him, they relied heavily on the dense residential layout, using the built-up area to move between firing positions and shift their attacks.

He explained that trenches and dugouts between houses allowed Ukrainian troops to maneuver quickly, creating the challenge of incoming fire from multiple directions.

Bogdan noted that the approaches to the settlement were largely open ground, kept under constant Ukrainian control. This, he said, made a frontal assault extremely difficult. In response, Russian forces carried out a diversionary action while the main group moved around the enemy and entered the village from behind.

He also claimed that Ukrainian attempts to send reinforcements to strengthen their garrison in Ternovatoye were disrupted in time, with Russian drone operators preventing additional troops and supplies from reaching the area.

After securing the positions, the разведчик said Russian soldiers found a map showing the placement of Ukrainian units, as well as a tablet.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported the capture of Ternovatoye in its January 30 update on the course of the special military operation.
