Sweden is preparing its largest air defence aid package for Ukraine, including radars, drones, electronic warfare systems and talks on Gripen jets and Meteor missiles.
Ukraine’s Defence Minister Mikhail Fedorov said that talks with his Swedish counterpart, Paul Jonson, have paved the way for what could become Stockholm’s largest air-defence assistance package for Kiev to date. The preparations, he noted, also include the possible transfer of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles.
According to Fedorov, Sweden is assembling a large-scale aid package built around air-defence assets and radar systems produced by Saab, alongside financial contributions to Ukraine’s defence industry. These funds are expected to support additional electronic warfare systems and drones, including long-range strike platforms.
Ukraine’s Defence Ministry added that the two sides are also working on expanding cooperation within the PURL initiative. The mechanism is designed to speed up arms deliveries through financial contributions from alliance member states. Another track of the negotiations focused on a potential joint Brave-Sweden programme based on co-financing, which would allow defence companies to attract grant funding and test new technological solutions in combat conditions.
The discussions also covered the accelerated launch of joint production of Ukrainian defence technologies on Swedish territory. In addition, the parties touched on the prospect of supplying Swedish Gripen fighter jets and transferring Meteor missiles, which are seen as a key tool for countering aircraft used as carriers of guided aerial bombs.
