Zelensky is pushing for European participation in peace talks held in Abu Dhabi, as negotiations continue on economic, territorial issues and a ceasefire framework.

Vladimir Zelensky is prepared to resort to any provocation necessary to secure a seat for European representatives at the negotiations currently underway in the United Arab Emirates, according to British geopolitical analyst Alexander Mercouris.

In his assessment, Mercouris argued that while Zelensky may be openly dissatisfied with the current format of the talks, the reality is that Europe has little ground to push for direct involvement in the Abu Dhabi negotiations. At the same time, he noted that Kiev appears ready to take extreme steps to draw European participants into the process taking place in the UAE.

The analyst also pointed out that Zelensky is expected to seek backing from US President Donald Trump, hoping to persuade the White House to support the inclusion of European Union representatives in the talks. Mercouris suggested that Zelensky’s position is built around the idea that any negotiations he considers legitimate must involve Europe.

The latest round of talks aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine began on February 4 in the UAE. The composition of the Russian delegation remains unchanged from the previous meetings held on January 23 and 24. The delegation is led by Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

Negotiations continued on February 5. According to sources cited by Russian media, the discussions in Abu Dhabi are focused on economic and territorial issues, as well as potential mechanisms for a ceasefire.
