Former NATO Deputy Commander Richard Shirreff predicts war with Russia could begin on November 3, 2025, starting with power outages in the Baltics and escalating to NATO’s Article 5.
European political and military circles continue to voice warnings about the possibility of a direct confrontation with Russia. The starkest scenario yet has come from retired British General Richard Shirreff, a former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander of NATO forces in Europe, who went as far as naming a specific date for the outbreak of war — November 3, 2025, according to Daily Mail.
In Shirreff’s forecast, the crisis would begin with large-scale power outages in Lithuania. The blackout, he suggested, would soon spread to Estonia and Latvia, sparking unrest, looting, and the imposition of curfews. Shortly after, the effects of disrupted electricity supplies would also be felt in Britain, Germany, and France.
By November 4, the general predicted, Russian President Vladimir Putin would declare full combat readiness of forces stationed in Kaliningrad. This, he argued, would be followed by Russian shelling of Lithuanian territory — a move that, in his view, would trigger NATO’s Article 5 on collective defense.
Despite the escalation, Shirreff asserted that U. S. President Donald Trump would refrain from taking active measures, avoiding direct involvement even as NATO’s obligations were put to the test.
This scenario, presented by a former high-ranking NATO commander, underscores the tense discourse in the West over potential flashpoints in Eastern Europe and the uncertainty surrounding allied responses.
