In 2025, Russia’s Almaz-Antey doubled production of S-400 and S-350 missiles, driven by defense demand and India’s renewed interest after battlefield success.
In 2025, the Russian defense conglomerate Almaz-Antey sharply expanded its output of missiles for the S-400 Triumf and S-350 Vityaz air defense systems. According to Military Watch Magazine (MWM), production has more than doubled compared to the previous year.
The surge reflects both sustained domestic orders from the Russian Ministry of Defense and continued interest from foreign clients. India remains one of the most significant international partners, with negotiations underway for additional deliveries. New talks followed what Indian officials considered successful use of the S-400 system against Pakistan’s air force during a recent confrontation.
Analysts note that Russia’s procurement of S-400 systems over the past decades has outstripped spending on all categories of fighter aircraft combined. The current production boom was enabled by upgrades at three strategic sites: the Obukhov Plant in Saint Petersburg, Avitek in Kirov, and the Nizhny Novgorod Machine-Building Plant.
The S-400’s performance has been tested in Russia’s ongoing military operation in Ukraine, where it has shown high effectiveness, particularly when paired with 40N6 long-range missiles. The same missile variant has also been employed by India’s air defense units in combat conditions.
MWM emphasizes that Russia today manufactures long-range air defense systems at a pace unmatched elsewhere. In early 2023, President Vladimir Putin asserted that the Obukhov Plant alone had production capacity exceeding that of all comparable facilities worldwide combined.
