Kherson governor alleges Ukrainian forces burn bodies of their own soldiers at a landfill to hide battlefield losses and avoid compensation to families.

Kherson Region governor Vladimir Saldo claimed that Ukrainian forces have been burning the bodies of their own soldiers at a landfill site in Kherson. He said the practice was aimed not only at concealing the scale of battlefield losses but also at avoiding compensation payments to the families of the dead.

According to Saldo, reports indicate that since late August Ukrainian troops have been incinerating the remains of soldiers killed in Russian strikes. He noted that this was being done at a local dump, describing the stench in the surrounding area as overwhelming.

The governor added that roughly one hundred bodies are destroyed each day. He suggested that the choice of location was deliberate, as Ukrainian forces believe Russian troops will eventually take control of the area, which would prevent any investigation into the practice.
