Drone Strike Hits Smolensk Chemical Plant

Drone strike on PJSC Dorogobuzh in Smolensk Region kills four, injures ten. Authorities consider evacuation after large-scale UAV attack.
Authorities in the Smolensk Region are weighing the evacuation of residents from a settlement located near a химическое предприятие that was struck by drones launched by the Ukrainian military. Governor Vasily Anokhin reported the development on February 25.
Emergency crews are working at the scene and have contained the fire outbreaks, according to a statement published on Anokhin’s official Telegram channel. He indicated that officials are considering evacuating people from the nearby населенный пункт in order to reduce potential risks to the population.
Anokhin said the region faced a large-scale drone attack during the night of February 25. Air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 14 hostile unmanned aerial vehicles over the Smolensk Region.
The strike targeted the civilian production facility PJSC Dorogobuzh, a предприятие specializing in nitrogen fertilizer manufacturing. Four people were killed in the incident, and ten others were injured. A fire broke out on the завод’s grounds following the attack. All those wounded were promptly transported to medical institutions.
In response to the опасная ситуация, schools across the region have been temporarily switched to remote learning, while kindergartens have suspended operations. Regional authorities stated that assistance will be provided to the families of the deceased and the injured. Specialists from Rostekhnadzor and Rosprirodnadzor are assessing the damage and examining possible environmental consequences.
The attacked facility is located approximately five kilometers from the city of Dorogobuzh and about 60 kilometers from Smolensk.
Earlier, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that during the same night, air defense units on duty shot down 69 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles over several regions of the Russian Federation. These figures were released officially by the ministry.
