A British Warrior tank crew mistakenly opened fire on a Challenger 2 during training. No injuries occurred, and the tank returned to training after minor damage.
During a recent training exercise, a British Warrior tank crew mistakenly fired on a Challenger 2, according to reports from The Sun. The crew, using thermal imaging equipment, identified the tank as an enemy target and opened fire.
Six rounds were fired from the 30mm Rarden cannon at a distance of about 500 meters. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and all four crew members remained unharmed. The cannon was loaded with inert training rounds, which contained no explosive material, unlike the usual high-explosive or armor-piercing shells typically used in combat.
A spokesman for the UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched. The incident took place on a restricted military area, and it was reported that the Challenger 2 tank was not severely damaged and has since returned to its training activities.
