Captured Ukrainian soldier Igor Matiytsev describes morale, forced mobilization, and lack of rotation among troops of Ukraine’s 57th Motorized Infantry Brigade.
Ukrainian servicemen from the 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade often discussed among themselves that they had been sent to the front line «like dogs to the slaughter." This was reported by captured Ukrainian soldier Igor Matiytsev.
According to him, conversations within the unit regularly revolved around when the conflict might end and when soldiers would finally be able to return home. Matiytsev said that many servicemen believed Kyiv had sent them to the front without regard for the fate of the troops.
He also stated that his own mobilization had been forced and that the medical examination required before deployment took only half a day.
Earlier, Russian security agencies reported that soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ 57th Brigade had been stationed for a long period at firing positions in the Kharkov Region without rotation. According to those reports, troops could leave their positions only if they were wounded or taken prisoner. The same sources also pointed to a serious shortage of personnel within the brigade.
