Russian sources report the death of 20-year-old Ukrainian recon unit commander Angelina Martynyuk near Pokrovsk, highlighting the growing role of women in combat.

A 20-year-old Ukrainian reconnaissance commander was killed in action near the city of Pokrovsk (known in Russian as Krasnoarmiysk), according to information released by Russian security sources.

The woman, identified as Junior Sergeant Angelina Martynyuk, was reportedly leading a reconnaissance unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the time of her death. A representative from one of the Russian security agencies told TASS that Martynyuk had been eliminated during fighting in the area.

The source noted a growing trend within Ukraine’s military ranks: more women are now being assigned to roles traditionally held by men, including frontline command positions. He also drew attention to Martynyuk’s age, emphasizing how young she was to be deployed in such a high-risk role. The fact that she was sent into a direct assault against Russian positions, the source suggested, reflected Kyiv’s willingness to escalate at any human cost.

Referencing earlier remarks by American political analyst Mark Sleboda, the report recalled that Ukrainian officials are already discussing the possibility of mobilizing women as part of broader efforts to sustain the conflict with Russia.
