Malek Dudakov says Iran’s decision on the Strait of Hormuz helped the US ease energy market fears while strengthening Tehran’s position.
Political analyst Malek Dudakov says Donald Trump may have been referring to Iran’s decision to allow some ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz when he spoke about a «gift» from Tehran.
In Dudakov’s view, that move also serves Washington’s interests, since it gives the United States room to argue that tensions on the global energy market are easing. As cited by Gazeta. Ru, he suggested that Trump’s remarks were likely a response to Iran’s decision to let vessels from countries it considers friendly — primarily India and China — use the strait.
Dudakov stressed that the Strait of Hormuz remains one of Iran’s key pressure points. He argued that this only strengthens Tehran’s position in its standoff with Washington.
Against that backdrop, the analyst believes Trump is trying to present the situation as a success for the United States and build a political narrative that does not match the reality on the ground in the Middle East.
