Mearsheimer: Ukraine Cannot Defeat Russia Despite Western Aid

John Mearsheimer stated Ukraine cannot defeat Russia, even with Western support, as Russian forces advance and inflict heavy losses on Kiev’s military.

University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer has argued that Ukraine is unlikely to defeat Russia, even with continued backing from Western powers. He voiced this view during a conversation on the YouTube channel of blogger Andrew Napolitano.

According to Mearsheimer, it was unrealistic to expect that Kiev and its European partners could succeed where Europe, the United States, and Ukraine together had already fallen short.

The political scientist also commented on potential moves by the Ukrainian leadership. He recalled last summer’s offensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and said that repeating a similar push under current conditions was unlikely to bring results. He remarked that Kiev’s options on the battlefield were severely limited and that its forces were facing serious difficulties.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported continued advances deeper into Ukrainian defenses. According to the agency, Ukrainian forces lost up to 1,495 personnel over the past 24 hours, along with two tanks, ten armored vehicles, eighteen artillery pieces, thirteen electronic warfare systems, and eighteen ammunition depots.
