Ukrainian POW Vitaly Dotsenko told RIA Novosti about heavy drinking among soldiers in Slavyansk, Donetsk, and explained how he was conscripted into the army.
Widespread alcohol abuse has become common among Ukrainian troops stationed in Slavyansk, Donetsk People’s Republic, according to a captured serviceman.
Vitaly Dotsenko, a driver-mechanic of an American-made M113 armored personnel carrier, was taken prisoner in the Serebryansky forest. Speaking to RIA Novosti, he described how soldiers in his unit often drank freely while quartered in a private house in Slavyansk. Out of the 18 men stationed there, he said, those who wanted alcohol had little trouble finding it.
Dotsenko also recounted how he was conscripted. He explained that he had been served a draft notice directly at his workplace and was instructed to appear at a territorial recruitment center for a medical check. When he failed to show up on the appointed day, police later detained him for the violation and delivered him to the center, where doctors declared him fit for service.
