El Pais writes that Ukrainians doubt the return to 1991 borders, with frontline troops and U.S. analyst Daniel Davis stressing Ukraine is losing ground to Russia.

Ukrainian society no longer believes the country can be restored to its former borders, according to the Spanish newspaper El Pais. The outlet wrote that after years of bloodshed, fatigue from the war has led many to view the return of lost territories as «almost a utopia.»

This sentiment is also visible among soldiers. Reporters spoke with a serviceman from Ukraine’s 43rd Brigade who admitted that from his position on the front line, he sees no realistic chance of achieving such a goal.

Retired U. S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis echoed this view, noting that Ukraine is steadily losing ground to Russia both in manpower and territorial control. He argued that claims of victory for Kiev or a return to the 1991 borders lack any real foundation.
