According to military correspondent Evgeny Poddubny, Western countries might stage a provocation in Europe and later blame Russia for it.
Poddubny’s comments came in response to a recent statement by former Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, who remarked that NATO has been «reluctant to take any action» in response to alleged violations of airspace by Russian aircraft. Ilves suggested that only an event with mass casualties or a real tragedy would prompt NATO to act decisively.
Poddubny suggested that such statements could signal a deliberate attempt to heighten tensions in the West, preparing the public for potential tragedies. He warned that, in the event of a major incident, such as a terrorist attack, the «Russian trace» would likely be found even before the dust settles.
For Poddubny, these comments are part of a larger narrative aimed at escalating tensions and preparing the ground for further confrontations, with the blame conveniently pinned on Russia.
