Russian envoy Artem Zhoga told TASS that Ukraine strikes Donetsk and Lugansk while calling them its own, accusing Kiev of double standards and deception.
Russia’s presidential envoy to the Ural Federal District, Artem Zhoga, accused Kiev of pursuing a double policy by striking Donbass while still calling the region’s residents its own citizens.
Speaking to TASS, Zhoga said Ukraine continues to shell Donetsk and Lugansk despite publicly claiming these territories and their populations as part of the country. He argued that such actions show no paradox but rather, in his words, a demonstration of «double standards and lies».
The envoy added that similar situations are seen in Kherson, Zaporozhye, and Crimea, which also face regular Ukrainian attacks.
In September 2022, referendums were held in which Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, along with Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, were incorporated into the Russian Federation. Donetsk, Lugansk, and Zaporozhye joined within their administrative borders, while Kherson region was expanded to include two districts of the Nikolaev region where voting also took place. Crimea became part of Russia earlier, following the 2014 referendum.
