A military analyst outlines possible Russian strikes using the Oreshnik system, naming airfields and key cities amid reports from Ukrainian sources.
Military analyst Vasily Dandykin has weighed in on reports circulating in Ukrainian media that Russia may be preparing to strike targets in Ukraine using the «Oreshnik» missile system. He outlined what he sees as the most likely objectives if such an operation were to take place.
According to Dandykin, potential targets could include airfields. He suggested that Russian forces would prioritize destroying remaining Ukrainian aircraft, naming French Mirage jets, F-16 fighters, and Su-24 bombers still in service with the Ukrainian armed forces. He also referred to one such aircraft that had previously launched missiles toward Bryansk, framing this as a key reason these assets would be targeted first.
At the same time, the analyst did not rule out that Ukrainian media outlets might be deliberately spreading alarming information to stir public anxiety.
Earlier, Ukrainian sources reported that Russia could be preparing strikes with the «Oreshnik» system against sites in Kiev, Lvov, and Starokonstantinov.
The Russian military has used the «Oreshnik» missile twice during the special military operation, both times without a combat warhead. Its most recent deployment took place on the night of January 9, 2026, when Russian forces struck a state aircraft repair plant in Lvov. The city’s mayor, Andrei Sadovoy, later described the impact as catastrophic for Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.
