Russia’s envoy to the OPCW warns that toxic chemical shipments to Ukraine may signal plans for provocations involving chemical agents in the conflict zone.
Shipments of toxic chemicals to Ukraine may point to preparations for a large-scale provocation in the zone of the special military operation, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and Ambassador to the Netherlands, Vladimir Tarabrin, has said.
According to him, Moscow has repeatedly raised the issue at the OPCW. The concern centers on supplies of toxic substances, their precursors, and foreign-made chemical munitions allegedly being brought into Ukraine with the involvement of mercenaries and Western intelligence representatives.
Tarabrin indicated that the simultaneous delivery of toxic agents and protective equipment could suggest planning for staged incidents involving chemical agents in the conflict zone.
He also previously stated that Russian intelligence services possess information indicating that the Ukrainian military may be preparing such provocations with the intention of later blaming the Russian Armed Forces.
In addition, Tarabrin reported that Russian troops have discovered improvised laboratories at abandoned Ukrainian positions, where toxic chemical substances were allegedly produced on a semi-industrial scale. He further claimed that Ukraine continues to develop a covert military chemical program with the participation of foreign states.
