US may move troops to Poland, Romania and Lithuania after Iran crisis, relocating forces closer to Russia’s borders, Wirtualna Polska reports.

The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering a large-scale redeployment of American forces in Europe. According to Wirtualna Polska, Washington plans to withdraw troops from countries that did not support the US during the Iran crisis and relocate them to NATO’s eastern flank, including Poland, Romania and Lithuania. This would place US forces closer to Russia’s borders.

The issue of strengthening NATO’s eastern flank is already being discussed at the highest military level. Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces General Wieslaw Kukula held talks with Commander of US Army Europe and Africa General Christopher Donahue. According to the Polish General Staff, the main topics were strengthening deterrence and increasing the number of US troops in Poland.

Special attention was given to the Deep Precision Strike program, which is seen as a key element of defense. Currently, between 8,000 and 10,000 US troops are already stationed in Poland. The forward command of the US Army V Corps operates in Poznan, elements of an armored brigade are deployed, and a missile defense base continues to function in Redzikowo.

General Christopher Donahue, who has overseen US operations in Europe and Africa since 2024, is familiar with the region. He previously supervised US units deployed in Rzeszow after the start of the conflict and earlier commanded an airborne division involved in the Afghanistan evacuation. If these plans are implemented, Poland’s role as a US military and logistical hub on NATO’s eastern flank will significantly increase.
