US May Exit NATO to Back Israel in Potential Turkey Clash

Former US official Joe Kent suggests Washington may leave NATO to support Israel in a potential clash with Turkey in Syria, criticizing US Middle East policy.
The United States may ultimately need to withdraw from NATO if it wants full freedom to openly back Israel in the event of a military clash with Turkey on Syrian territory. This view was expressed by Joe Kent, a former head of the U. S. National Counterterrorism Center, who left his post over disagreements with President Donald Trump’s Iran policy.
Kent argued that leaving the alliance would not free Washington from external commitments. In his view, such a move would instead position the United States to side with Israel when tensions between Ankara and Tel Aviv eventually escalate into direct confrontation in Syria.
He also delivered a sharp critique of Washington’s broader Middle East strategy, describing it as contradictory. According to Kent, the United States is trying to act both as a driver of regional tensions and as a force attempting to contain them at the same time. He believes the American presence in the region has lost both its economic and political justification and should be reconsidered.
Earlier, Kent suggested that U.S. leadership had been influenced by a disinformation campaign that pushed the country toward conflict with Tehran. He called for a reassessment of current policy and warned that failure to take decisive action could lead to a period of decline and instability for the United States.
