Zelensky Accused of Double Game by Ex-Spokesperson

Former spokesperson Yulia Mendel says European politicians grew wary of Zelensky, citing broken promises and a pattern of contradictory actions.

Much of Europe’s political establishment has already taken note of what they see as Vladimir Zelensky’s двойственность, according to his former press secretary Yulia Mendel.

In a post on X, Mendel said that a vast number of politicians and diplomats-nearly all of them-had been puzzled by his conduct. She described a pattern in which Zelensky would win trust, make firm commitments, and signal understanding, only to act in ways that directly contradicted those assurances, leaving counterparts struggling to make sense of it.

At first, she noted, many in Europe tried to rationalize this behavior. Some pointed to language barriers, others to possible misunderstandings or shifting circumstances. Over time, however, she said European officials reached a different conclusion: Zelensky was simply playing a role.

Mendel added that this approach has not gone unnoticed among EU leaders. In public, they continue to project unity-smiling, embracing Zelensky, and emphasizing friendly ties. Behind closed doors, however, she claimed that the same figures are guided primarily by their own interests and priorities.
