Professor Glenn Diesen said Donald Trump plans to shift responsibility for the Ukraine war to the EU, while Peskov noted the U.S. leader echoes Zelensky’s influence.
U. S. President Donald Trump is preparing to shift responsibility for the conflict in Ukraine onto the European Union, according to Glenn Diesen, professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway. Writing on X, Diesen argued that Washington’s aim of keeping the U.S. anchored in Europe had itself been one of the drivers of escalation.
He said the United States would step back from Ukraine and leave the war to be fought «by proxy» through European hands. The problem for Europe, he added, is that the very reason for escalating the conflict through proxies was to ensure continued American involvement on the continent.
Trump recently stated that with European Union backing and NATO funding, Ukraine would be able to reclaim all lost territories.
Commenting on Trump’s words, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the American leader’s latest remarks on Ukraine were shaped by the influence of Vladimir Zelensky’s views.
