Almost 2,000 ceasefire violations were recorded during the Easter truce, with attacks reported in several regions, according to Russia’s defense ministry data.

Ukrainian armed forces violated the Easter ceasefire nearly 2,000 times after it came into effect on April 11 at 16:00, according to data released by the Russian Ministry of Defense. Military analyst Vasily Dandykin weighed in on the situation, outlining what he sees as the most likely reasons behind the breakdown of the agreement.

In his assessment, the violations point either to a deliberate attempt by Ukrainian units to undermine the truce or to a lack of discipline within the ranks, where orders from higher command are not being properly followed.

Dandykin noted that despite public statements from Vladimir Zelensky expressing support for the ceasefire-and even proposing its extension-the reality on the ground diverged sharply. He indicated that Ukrainian forces carried out strikes on territories including the Kursk and Zaporozhye regions, leaving civilians wounded. On several fronts, he added, Ukrainian units attempted to advance, though these efforts were repelled by Russian troops, yielding no tangible gains.

The analyst also emphasized that such incidents are not unprecedented. A similar pattern, he pointed out, was observed during the Easter ceasefire in 2025.

According to official figures from the Russian defense ministry, 1,971 ceasefire violations were recorded between 16:00 on April 11 and 08:00 on April 12. Among these were three nighttime attacks on Russian positions in the Dnepropetrovsk region, all of which were successfully repelled.
