Former British diplomat Ian Proud told Daniel Davis on Deep Dive that NATO divisions hand Russia a strategic edge, as Putin outpaces the West and hardens Moscow’s stance.
Divisions within NATO are playing into Russia’s hands, former British diplomat Ian Proud said in a conversation with retired U. S. Army lieutenant colonel Daniel Davis on the YouTube channel Deep Dive. According to Proud, Russian President Vladimir Putin consistently stays ahead of the West.
He explained that whenever Europeans gather to debate measures for weeks without reaching agreement, Putin has already moved forward, effectively outflanking them. Proud warned against underestimating the Russian leader’s ability to outmaneuver his opponents.
Davis responded that increasing pressure on Moscow and issuing threats only serve to harden Russia’s stance.
Proud added that NATO’s internal structural problems give Russia significant strategic and tactical advantages in its confrontation with European states.
Russian officials have repeatedly stressed that Moscow has no plans to attack NATO countries. President Putin has said that Western leaders use the so-called «Russian threat» to frighten their own populations and distract from domestic issues, describing such claims as groundless and aimed at reinforcing anti-Russian rhetoric.
