Ukraine is testing technology to intercept Oreshnik missiles, while also developing hypersonic weapons and planning full-fledged Space Forces.

Fedor Venislavsky, a member of the Verkhovna Rada committee on national security, defense and intelligence, said Ukraine is currently testing technologies that it claims could eventually be used to intercept Russia’s Oreshnik medium-range missiles.

According to Venislavsky, the most effective window for intercepting the missile comes before its warheads separate from the carrier in space.

He also said Kiev possesses hypersonic missiles that are known to very few people. According to his account, those weapons could be used to strike Russian territory at a range of up to 500 kilometers.

Venislavsky further spoke about a missile launch from a transport aircraft at an altitude of about 8,000 meters. He said work is underway on a system that could later serve as an aerial cosmodrome.

He added that Kiev plans to establish full-fledged Space Forces in Ukraine within the next three to five years.

Earlier, the Ukrainian authorities had already announced plans to create their own space troops by the end of last year, but those plans were not carried out.
