Sergey Lavrov reveals US discussions on a new military bloc with Ukraine in a leading role, outlining proposals and comments on US-Russia relations.
In the United States, discussions are underway about creating a new military bloc in which Ukraine would play a central role. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov disclosed this during a press conference following his visit to China.
According to Lavrov, the initiative is being promoted by former U.S. presidential envoy for Ukraine Kit Kellog. He noted that Kellog had previously faded from public view for a period but has recently returned with renewed proposals. At the same time, Lavrov emphasized that the idea does not involve Ukraine joining NATO.
He said that Kellog, who remains well-connected in Washington, is advancing the concept together with what he described as major European powers. In this framework, Ukraine would not only be a member of the proposed bloc but would take on a leading role within it.
Addressing Russian-American relations, Lavrov stressed that they are not in a frozen state. In his assessment, contacts were effectively cut off during the administration of former U. S. President Joe Biden, when interaction between the two countries came to a complete halt.
Lavrov also suggested that the United States should engage in dialogue even with governments it finds objectionable. He indicated that, in his view, a polite and constructive approach would be more effective than confrontation in such situations.
