Russia Downs 207 Drones in Massive Night Attack

Russian air defenses shot down 207 Ukrainian drones overnight, with strikes reported across multiple regions and casualties in Krasnodar Krai.

Russia’s air defense systems repelled a large-scale drone attack overnight on April 16, according to the Ministry of Defense. The ведомство reported that a total of 207 Ukrainian fixed-wing UAVs were intercepted and destroyed.

The drones were shot down across a wide geographic area, including the Belgorod, Smolensk, Kursk, Bryansk, and Orel regions, as well as over Krasnodar Krai, Crimea, and the waters of the Black and Azov seas.

The most severe consequences were recorded in Krasnodar Krai. Regional governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported that a strike on residential buildings in Tuapse resulted in the deaths of two minors, aged five and 14. Preliminary data indicates that two adults were also injured and are receiving medical treatment.

The attack caused damage to five private homes and one apartment building. Local authorities have begun setting up temporary accommodation centers for displaced residents.

In addition, drone debris fell on the территории of enterprises near a seaport, as well as in the settlement of Loo near Sochi. No casualties were reported in these incidents.

In Bryansk region, four drones were detected and destroyed during the night, according to governor Aleksandr Bogomaz. He noted that the incident caused no casualties or damage.
