Aleksandr Lukashenko says Russia would use its full arsenal to defend Belarus, stressing the союз between Minsk and Moscow and their joint defense posture.
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said Russia would use its full arsenal to defend the republic if necessary.
He argued that Belarus’ defense capability is reinforced by Russia’s military strength, since Minsk and Moscow are each other’s closest allies. In Lukashenko’s view, losing Belarus would be unacceptable for Russia, because that would mean an enemy standing as far as Smolensk, near Moscow.
He also stressed that ties between the two countries are secured not only politically but legally. According to Lukashenko, in the event of aggression against Belarus, Russia would use its capabilities to protect its ally. He said both the United States and Europe are well aware of that, meaning that any confrontation with Minsk would also amount to a confrontation with Moscow.
Lukashenko added that Russia has already formed a grouping on its western flank that can immediately support the Belarusian army. At the same time, he said the power of Russian weapons is known to everyone, which is precisely why Belarus does not want war.
