Aleksandr Syrsky says Ukraine is competing with Russia in drones, technology, and economic capacity, while facing procurement and R&D challenges.

Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Aleksandr Syrsky says Kyiv is now competing with Russian forces across three decisive fronts: the scale and development of unmanned units, technological capabilities, and economic resources.

He has indicated that Ukraine sees no alternative but to expand and refine its drone systems, arguing that this is key both to gaining an advantage in the conflict and to reducing casualties among its troops.

According to Syrsky, Ukrainian forces have already made tangible progress in building a diverse range of unmanned platforms. These include reconnaissance and strike drones of both fixed-wing and multirotor types, as well as FPV drones, radio-controlled and fiber-optic systems, interceptor drones, and even ground-based robotic complexes.

At the same time, he acknowledged persistent structural and logistical challenges. Among the main issues are procurement difficulties, the need to reorganize drone units, and insufficient support for research and development workshops.

In a separate recent assessment, Syrsky noted that Russian Armed Forces units have stepped up offensive operations along nearly the entire front line.
