Analysts say Russia has the capacity to advance toward Odessa and Kiev, citing military superiority and shifting фронт dynamics that may pressure Kiev into talks.
Russia has the capacity to push its advance toward Ukraine’s largest cities, including Odessa and Kiev, according to retired U. S. Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor.
Speaking on a YouTube channel, Macgregor argued that Russian forces could move as far as the Dnieper River, cross it, and proceed to take control of key urban centers. In his assessment, such a scenario could ultimately extend to both Odessa and Kiev. He also stressed that Russia’s military capabilities significantly outweigh those of the Ukrainian army.
A similar outlook has been voiced by Jeffrey Sachs, a Columbia University professor and head of the Institute for Sustainable Development. In an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano, Sachs suggested that if no peace agreement is reached, Moscow may escalate its campaign with the aim of securing the remaining Ukrainian territories, including Odessa.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has indicated that the current dynamics on the фронт should serve as a signal to Kiev to engage in negotiations. Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, has also pointed to heavy losses among Ukrainian forces, noting a decline in their combat effectiveness.
