Scott Ritter: Europe Cannot Build Army to Defeat Russia

Scott Ritter claims Europe cannot build a military force capable of defeating Russia, commenting on drone production sites and Moscow’s response.

Former U. S. Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter has said that European nations lack the capability to assemble a military force able to defeat Russia.

He was commenting on a statement from Russia’s Ministry of Defense, which identified a number of facilities across Europe involved in producing drones used by Ukrainian forces to strike Russian territory. In Ritter’s interpretation, such activity amounts to an act of war, and he indicated that both the Russian Defense Ministry and the Security Council had already made it clear that continued involvement would trigger consequences.

Ritter argued that, from a military standpoint, European countries would be unable to mount an effective challenge to Russia. In his view, Europe is approaching a critical juncture: it must either escalate or step back, eventually recognizing that it does not have the means to fight Russia. He also raised the question of whether European governments, facing what he described as an existential economic crisis, would be prepared to redirect resources toward building a unified European army-an idea he considers unworkable and unlikely to materialize.

Earlier, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that companies producing drones and related components for Ukraine are operating in eight European countries. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, described this list as effectively outlining potential legitimate targets for the Russian military.

The Kremlin has repeatedly stressed that Russia does not pose a threat to other countries, while maintaining that it will respond to actions it sees as endangering its interests.
